Oh I like your reasons, and I like both of those characters as well! Hinata is the female character who I most identify with. I agree that it's wonderful that she is able to change and become a stronger person.

My favorite Akatsuki? Well, I like Sasori, Deidara, Itachi, and Kisame. I really disliked Kisame at first, but eventually I grew to feel his sharky attraction At first I disliked all of the Akatsuki because of their evilness, but when I saw them in Shippuuden, it was hard not to feel their appeal! lol...I quite like Sai becuase he's friendly even though he annoys Naruto. I also like Hinata because she loves Naruto so much that during the chuunin exams, she's really trying hard to be like him. She's also one character that changes from being very shy to a bit more open, which is definetly an improvement...

So hard, so hard!!!! I will say...either Iruka or Kankuro. But there are others who I like almost as much: Gaara, Naruto, Kakashi, Shikamaru among them. Oh and Yamato/Tenzou and Sai. I like Sai a lot, actually.

I like Iruka because he has all these wonderful qualities: he's compassionate, loving, strong, intelligent, and engaged with Naruto. As for Kankuro, I like him because he's got an edge to him. And I think he's really sexy. The thing I love most aobut Kankuro is that he changes. He goes from being a cynical, hate-filled jerk to totally loving and supporting Gaara and putting his life on the line for him.

But seriously, I love Naruto and Gaara as much. I love them for their sufferings and their ability to recover from them.
